# Group Scenarios Overview

FanHQ26's **Group Scenarios** calculator (/scenarios) lets fans dial in any matchday-3 scoreline for any 2026 World Cup group and watch the live standings — points, goal difference, goals for/against — recalculate instantly with FIFA tiebreakers applied. The tool is designed for the high-stakes final round when "what if X draws and Y wins by 2" math gets desperate.

## How It Works

Fans pick a group from A–L. The page renders the group's six matches in chronological order, with score inputs for the home and away teams on every fixture. Adjusting any score updates the standings table in real time. Teams in qualifying positions (top two automatically advance; third may qualify as a "best third-placed team") are highlighted.

## Tiebreakers Applied

Standings sort by **points**, then **goal difference**, then **goals scored**, then **head-to-head result** between tied teams — matching FIFA's published 2026 tiebreaker order. The 8 best third-placed teams across the 12 groups advance to the new Round of 32; their qualification depends on tiebreakers across groups, which the page approximates with a flag.

## 48-Team Format

2026 is the first **48-team** World Cup. The group stage produces 24 direct qualifiers (top two from each of 12 groups) plus 8 best third-placed teams. The Round of 32 begins the knockout phase. Group Scenarios surfaces the implication of every plausible MD3 result on the third-placed cutoff line.

## Free Tool

Group Scenarios is **free** and requires no signup. The tool is part of FanHQ26's free fan-tools rail at /tools.

## Notes

The calculator is a **fan estimate** of FIFA tiebreaker logic; the actual qualification ruling is FIFA's. FanHQ26 is **independent fan content** for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and not affiliated with FIFA.
